On April 24th, 2013, the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed. 1,138 people died and another 2,500 were injured.
There were five garment factories in Rana Plaza all manufacturing clothing for big global brands. Although cracks had been detected earlier and reported, nothing was done and people had to work, though unprotected and with little pay. The victims were mostly young women. This, my friends, is when Fashion Revolution was born.
Fashion Revolution Week is a week given to remembering this and so many other devastating losses within the fashion industry. It is a week of advocating, using our voices to stand with millions around the world asking for justice, and a week of celebrating the good stories being written all around the world by social enterprises and businesses who are doing business in a way that honors all the people involved.
This year, Fashion Revolution Week is happening from April 22nd through the 29th and you better believe it — we are ready! So, whether you are a local part of the made family or with us from afar, we invite you to get involved:
#1 THE SIDEWALK CLOTHES SWAP
To launch the week, we are hosting our annual SIDEWALK CLOTHES SWAP. In case you didn't know, swapping is revolutionary in the face of fast fashion, which relies on clothing being treated as disposable. Let's be a part of something different. All the proceeds from the Swap will go to Fashion Revolution, one of our non-profit partners who loves fashion, but refuses to allow clothes to exploit people or destroy our planet.

#2 CELEBRATE + ADVOCATE WITH US
Throughout the week, we will have a few ways you can CELEBRATE + ADVOCATE with us at the shop and from afar. All week, at the shop we will be giving 5% to Remake, one of our non-profit partners, dedicated to fighting injustice in the clothing industry. On top of that, we will have coloring sheets for kids, an opportunity for you to send a letter to a brand you love, and a spot for you to take pictures to post asking those same brands — WHO MADE THIS?

#3 "THE TRUE COST" FILM SCREENING
As we get to the end of the week, we are hosting a film screening of one of our favorites, "The True Cost," an incredible documentary that looks at the wide reaching impact of fast fashion. All the proceeds from the screening will go to Fashion Revolution, one of our non-profit partners who loves fashion, but refuses to allow clothes to exploit people or destroy our planet.
