These lovely earrings have been handcrafted by the artisans of Rover + Kin in India. The hands you see in the picture belong to a woman named Manju, who is one of the talented artisans Rover + Kin partners with. She lost her husband at the age of 27. Left to fend for herself and her 3 year old son, she had to leave home and find employment; a choice that is otherwise not well accepted for women in her small village of northern India. Faced with few prospects, she eventually found work making jewelry for Rover + Kin's craft partner in Delhi and has been there for 15 years. With training, fair wages, and benefits, she was able to save money, put her son through school and enjoy a comfortable life that she proudly built.
Rover + Kin is about so much more than just providing a paycheck. They are providing fair employement, education opportunities for children in Northern India, health insurance and access to quality healthcare for all of their artisans, empowerment support and education for the young generation of future artisans and makers, and microfinance and saving opportunities.
